HOMEMADE WHOLE WHEAT BREAD!

My mom and I recently went to our Stake’s Relief Society Mini Conference. She and I split up and went to separate classes and met up to report our notes. When she came back from her nutrition class, she stated, “Ok, I’m a terrible mother. I don’t make bread every week and I haven’t taught my daughters how to make their own bread.” I laughed out loud, because, come on that’s crazy, then she just laughed and said that the teacher was so hardcore about getting enough fiber in your diet that he basically was saying that if you didn’t make your own whole wheat bread at least once a week and if you haven’t taught your daughters to do the same, your mothering needs some work. Ouch! While I definitely don’t agree with that crazy man’s statement, it has brought a change about in my mother when it comes to baking bread! :) She now bakes about 4 or 5 loaves of her delicious whole wheat bread (the wheat coming from her wheat grinder even), and has been showing us how to do it. (My sisters and I are lovin it too since we get a loaf every week.)

I have a thin piece of toast every morning with my breakfast with a little bit of butter, not margarine, and I can tell that I have been more “regular” since I started doing it. :)

Here’s my mother’s recipe if you don’t have one you already love. It’s super simple and super healthy. Don’t you just love homemade bread??!! :)

Preheat oven to 350
5 cups of hot water
½ c honey
2/3 c oil
1 ½ TB salt
½ tsp “C” granules (optional-this helps the gluten make the bread lighter. You can buy it at Sprouts)
1 c gluten
Mix all together
Add 5 cups of whole wheat flour
Mix
3 TB yeast
Mix
Add 5 cups of whole wheat flour, one cup at a time
Mix together for 10 minutes & spray your baking pans
Place on oiled countertop and knead, then divide into baking pans, cover with towels and let rise for 30 minutes
Bake bread for 30 minutes
