Holy crap I eat a lot of nut mix

Posted Apr 20 2010 6:00am

As I mentioned in last week's post , after Steve In A Speedo put his food logs out there for all the world to see, I decided to do the same.  One of the most frequent questions clients ask is "What do YOU eat?".  I let them know I'm usually very thoughtful about how and what I eat, but I also don't get too over the top in that I also eat treats every day.

I'm not going to get too in depth at this point about how I eat, as you'll be able to see as you scroll down through my logs.  I did make a few comments here and there throughout the logs, but feel free to ask me questions or leave comments and I'll address them in the comments section or a future post.

More importantly, I'M PROPOSING A CHALLENGE TO YOU:  KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING YOU EAT IN A WEEK, AND THEN LOOK IT OVER AT THE END OF THE WEEK.  There's opportunity to get some great insights as to how and what you eat.  I think it's easy to disregard a day of not making the best choices in that "it doesn't happen very often", but when we look back over the week, we may realize it may happen more often than we think.

On to the food logs....

Was this a typical week?

Typical in that there is no such thing as typical.  I travel a lot, and so my schedule and access to food is all over the place.  So yes, it's typical.

When I'm home I mainly eat organic.

When I travel there's not much access to organic food, so I just try and make the healthiest choices possible.

I don't get too crazy on measuring quantity before hand.

I try and listen to my body, eat when I'm hungry, and stop when I'm satisfied.  Sometimes that's more food, other times it's less.  Every day and every meal is different based on what my body needs.

I don't have set meal times.

I don't wait until a "meal time".  I eat when I'm hungry.

Do I have room for improvement?

Most definitely.  For starters, I could use more fruit and vegetables...

A couple of other things:

  • I didn't list water, but I drink it all day every day
  • We plan out our meals on Saturday or Sunday morning and then go shopping for the week.  It's an investment of time upfront, but saves us time during the week in that we know what we're making and we don't have to make several trips to "just get a few things" we need to make that night's meal.
  • It actually doesn't take that long for us to cook meals at home - my partner and I work together and can crank it out.
