Hittin' the Pavement

Posted Sep 11 2009 4:54pm
Hey guys,

Today has been weird with the time change! I'm going with Michigan time, so I just ate dinner and will be getting to bed early.

My mom and I hit up Mejier to restock our kitchen. Hopefully tomorrow we'll go to TJ's for some cheap greek yogurt and muffins! Lunch today was a big salad:

Romaine + Spinach
Red and black grapes
Sprouts
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Morningstar grilled chick'n patty
Annie's Island Marinade

Yum! Later today I had a pumpkin dessert with some new pretty sprinkles I picked up at Mejier. There are silver sprinkles in there if you look close enough!

I mixed the pumpkin with cinnamon, unsweetened cocoa powder, and topped it with some unsweetened coconut.

I also got 2 awesome blogger packages today! One from Danica at Danica's Daily and one from Leslie Elizabeth at Jackson's World.

Danica sent me an awesome Annie's package for winning her giveaway:

I can't wait to try these!

And Leslie Elizabeth sent me these fun goodies for winning her Whole Foods guessing contest, where I had the closest estimate to what she spent in a trip:

I was super surprised, cause I'm usually terrible at guessing games! I really want to try those chips and that yummy popcorn seasoning.

Thanks so much, ladies :D

And then my nose and I went on my FIRST outdoor run since the surgery! By the way, it's doing much better--it was kinda sore during the trip from all the moving and activity, but when it does "swell," it's very minimal. Not even noticeable to others.

I wore my Garmin but when I started running, I decided to just go at a natural pace and not look at the watch for a few minutes. Ummm, apparently a "natural" pace was an 8:11 mile! My legs wanted to go, go, go, but it was definitely harder cardiovascular-wise. I reined it in some little, but still went at a decent speed. I was breathing heavier than I used to, but it was manageably hard. Around mile 2.5 I did get a little cramp--it kinda felt like a side-stitch, but right by my heart-rate chest strap. So I eased up a little, and took the rest of the run slower.

I was aiming for 5 miles, but I got confused at this one loop and managed to miss a turn. When I realized what I did, I remember laughing and muttering, "are you kidding me?" before turning around. I ended up doing 6.02 miles and then a long walking cool down! It was a good run, and I know I'll get stronger cardiovascularly pretty quickly. I was happy! Here are my Garmin stats:

Total Distance: 6.02 miles
Total Time: 52:07
Average Pace: 8:39/mile
Average HR: 175
Max HR: 183
Calories Burned: 390

Mile 1: 8:29
Mile 2: 8:28
Mile 3: 8:44
Mile 4: 8:44
Mile 5: 8:47
Mile 6: 8:37

I compared these stats to those of similar runs prior to surgery. My average and max heartrate were about 5-8 beats higher than before, which goes along with how it felt harder.

I came back and had a U natural electrolyte capsule in water before showering. I really wanted greek yogurt for dinner, so I made the parfait that I've been missing over these past 8-9 days!

My super tall parfait glass

Smiley face!

1 single size container of Fage greek yogurt
1/2 cup pumpkin
Multibran Vitatop
Cinnamon
Unsweetened cocoa powder
Raisins and Newman's Own Organics dried cranberries
Spoon of Mighty Maple pb

We only had the corn vitas and a multibran vita left and since I like the cranbran and bluebran, I decided to add a few extra dried cranberries (and raisins since the multibran has some) into the mix. I liked it! It was so nice to have a parfait again, and I love how this meal has lots of protein from the greek yogurt, carbs from the vitatop, and healthy fat from the peanut butter. Oh, and let's not forget vitamins from the vitatop, too ;) It was also awesome cause it pretty much doubled as a dessert!

Alright, now I'm gonna chill and read all your blogs. I've got a lot of catching up to do! Have a wonderful nght, everyone :)

Q: What's your favorite dried fruit?

I'm usually not a dried fruit fan--I'd rather eat regular fruit, especially since I love volume foods), but I love dried cranberries and dried apples. I also love raisins in Oatmeal Raisin cookies--does that count? ;) What about you guys?
