Here in PA there’s a great pool at our YMCA, and I plan on joining the community pool in Putney once I get up to Vermont to work. I’ll also be keeping these in my backpack at the High School Program I’ll be working at this summer, which requires a lot of time outdoors. These are my essentials. (Products shown to scale.)
High SPF Ocean Potion Sunblock: There is a history of skin cancer in my family, and I burn very easily. I’d be stupid not to keep this one close at hand. Ocean Potion Sunblocks have a really nice scent—think of a tropical creamsicle. The scent isn’t so strong that you can’t wear it on a day to day basis; my dad wears it every day. It applies very evenly and absorbs relatively quickly.
CoverGirl Natureluxe Gloss in Tulip (#205): I’m incredibly picky about lip products, and this is one of two moisturizing products that I’d recommend. The Natureluxe gloss does give a nice shine, but it seems like more of a balm to me than a gloss. It comes in a ton of really nice, sheer colors. Tulip is my favorite because it has very fine shimmers and a nice light summery pink tint. Reapply this frequently at the pool for SPF 15 coverage.
CoverGirl LashBlast Length Water Resistant Mascara: My favorite drugstore mascara is easy to spot in your bag, and a little will go a long way. Keep a tube of the water resistant formulation in your pool bag and apply just as you’re heading out the door. It’ll stick—trust me.
Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+: This is a great lightweight SPF that can be applied over your daily moisturizer. I love it because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t have the same greasy finish that many face SPF lotions have, and I don’t have to give up my favorite daily moisturizer to use it. Daily use of this should keep skin cancer and premature aging at bay. Reapply after swimming!
