Help! I’ve become a homebody.

Posted Jun 15 2011 9:27am

As much as I hate to admit it, I think I am becoming a homebody. More often than not I prefer staying home and entertaining myself (or hanging out with J), eating my own cooking made with ingredients I can recognize, and knowing it’s my home so I can do whatever I want.

I’m trying to snap myself out of this and get out more often. I think it’s healthier for me and sometimes it’s even more enjoyable.

So, while I really wanted to spend my morning on the couch watching Gossip Girl episodes (I’m almost finished with Season 2), I chose to go for a lunch time walk instead. Does it matter if I only left the apartment so I wouldn’t be tempted to nap? I’m really trying to stop my mid-day nap habit. They are a waste of precious time unless I’m sick or super-rundown, which I am not, and unfortunately life is too short to just sleep all the time. Otherwise I probably would. I love sleep.

Tonight Ana and Marc invited us out for dinner. We’ve all been busy in the last few weeks and haven’t been able to get together very much. They recently got engaged and it was time to celebrate! Now this is the kind of thing I can enjoy going out for… good food, great company, and fun conversation. I’m so glad we were able to get together.

They also gave me this really neat camera charm:

I love how well they know us and “get” Jeremy and I.

Lunch today was a big bowl of summertime pasta.

I mixed about a cup of cooked pasta shells with a few tablespoons of Caesar dressing, some cooked frozen vegetables, and Parmesan cheese. After letting it cool in the refrigerator overnight it was ready to eat. This was a really simple dish, but I enjoyed how I could taste the flavors of every ingredient. Next time I would add a little more Caesar dressing.

oatmeal with peanut butter and soy milk

Breakfast was my usual mix of steel cut oatmeal, ground flaxseed, cinnamon, chia seeds, bananas, and peanut butter. I added a splash of soy milk before stirring to cool everything down. I’m almost to the point of crying “uncle” on hot breakfast options, but not quite yet. Maybe I can make it another week?

Mid-day (when I really wanted to nap) I made myself a caramel macchiato latte from a new grocery store find.

I used cold water and whisked a packet of the mix into a mug. Surprisingly, it tasted pretty good. This was just a spur of the moment toss into my shopping cart, so I’m not sure I’d buy it again.

But it was a fun switch for a dragging part of my day.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for this homebody to get her ass in the bed.
