Hello, Summer. {happy memorial day}

Posted May 29 2011 11:14pm

It’s hard to believe that the unofficial kick-off to summer is already here, but the sunburn on my shoulders is just a not-so-gentle reminder that we are, in fact, already half way through the year.

We were supposed to be traveling home this weekend, but our plans changed last minute. When we decided to just stay in Charlotte, we quickly made a plan for what to cookout, when we were going to, who we were going to invite,  and just what we were going to do to celebrate Memorial Day. Well, it’s Sunday night and I’m currently blowing my Starbucks allowance on West Elm’s Memorial Day sale {you’re welcome} while still wearing my yoga pants that I changed in to when we got in from church this morning.

My day has been pretty much spent on this recliner while hubs has lounged on the couch flipping between races, sports and Disney Pixar movies on ABC Family.

And you know what? It’s been a pretty perfect day. Truth is, we’re rarely home and doing nothing on weekends… especially when hubs has a three day weekend. Usually, when he has an extra day off, we’re traveling all that day trying to make it home by a decent hour.

We had planned on going to the U.S. National Whitewater Center tonight for live music and fireworks, but we decided a night of lazy sounded like more fun. So, I’ve been catching up on blog reading while he watches cars go around in a circle eleventy thousand times on TV.

Tomorrow we’ll be a little more traditionally celebratory by cooking out and eating something red, white & blue for dessert…

Just in case you forgot to this year, take a moment to remember the true meaning of the holiday and honor those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. To any of you reading this that are serving, have served, or have a loved one who has/is – thank you, from the bottom of my heart. <3

Happy Memorial Weekend!
