Helen

Posted Feb 26 2012 11:39am

There are a series of benchmark workouts simply called “the girls.”  There are a variety of benchmark WODs which you won’t do too many times, but are used to track progress.  They allow you to see how you’ve improved from the last time you did that WOD.

Today was Helen.  Bitch.

We warmed up with a few short runs and lots of stretching and other dynamic moves, then moved on to practicing our grips, pulls and lifts.  We then worked in teams and did 5 sets of 3 snatches.  I got up to #65 and it wasn’t pretty.

Then it was on to Helen.

3 rounds for time:

  • 400m run
  • 21 kettlebell swings
  • 12 pull ups

I used a 3/4 pood or #26 for my kettlebell swings.  We did 2 arm swings.

I use a green band for my pull ups, and I’m sure it’s going to be quite some time until I am able to do them unassisted.  The hope is to learn to do a kipping pull up.  One day, one day.

The whole WOD took  my 13:16.  Then I collapsed on the floor in the fetal position.
