Heat Wave

Posted Jun 30 2013 12:00am

It is hot in Portland.  In the 90s, and even pushing the 100′s when you get inside of a hot car. This is not normal for this time of year.  We’re not suppose to get “summer” until July 5th.  That’s how it works.  We’re not suppose to get a string of 90+ weather in June.

It’s funny, we just came from the south where is was this hot and hotter almost every day and for some reason I was ok with it.  Here – ug.  Someone turn down the thermometer.  We don’t have AC or a friend with a lake/pool/boat so there’s no real way of cooling off.  Instead I’ve spent most of my weekend sweltering around in my house with 5 fans blowing around, eagerly awaiting 9pm when it will finally cool down a bit.

I did manage to get up this morning when it was still in the 70s and take Chance on a couple mile walk but I probably ate away all those calories burned in watermelon.  Yesterday I squeezed in 30 min on the bike + some upper body weights before we headed over to our friend’s bday so I’m slowly trying to get back on the workout bandwagon.  It’s been so tough to get into a normal routine – the week we got back from vacation I had sales meetings which meant catered lunches/dinner with little to know mid-day gym time and then this week I was at an offsite downtown and at a winery so definitely didn’t get any workouts in during the day (but I did get my share of cookies in…bad).  Luckily, this week should be back to normal at least until Wednesday night when we go to the rodeo and then the 4th at the beach.  Tonight we’re making salmon and tomorrow is strawberry salad. ..

But let me back up to the birthday party.  Our friend’s Jon and Lauren have bday’s back to back.  Lauren’s was yesterday and Jon’s was today and Jon’s just happened to be his 30th.  Lauren and Jon’s fam did an awesome job pulling together a back yard BBQ complete with a ton of tailgate games and even a pinata.  We stayed out there until my allergies got so bad we had to head home.  It was great to see all of our friends and I’m so glad that birthdays are now at people’s houses instead of big bar shindigs.

And when we got home we chilled on our back deck in our lawn chairs.  I absolutely love our deck in the summer and especially on warm summer nights.  There’s honestly not anywhere else I’d rather be.

And now dinner is calling my name so I’m outta here…
