* The Tony Horton exercise plan

Tony is a respected and well known exercise guru. His programs sell a lot of DVDs for a pretty fair price.

Want to know his “secrets?” There are 3. Just follow them and you’ll be set.

1) Make 90% of your diet healthy. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, healthy fish, chicken and beef. Cheat on the other 10% to make your life tolerable.

2) Be ac count able. That is, count. Count your calories. Count or chart your exercise sessions.

3) Make work outs brief, intense, include strengthening, flexibility and balancing periods. You can even work out 2x in a day, for about 10 minutes.

An example of workouts that can be brief and intense is interval training

* Herbal remedy for skin burns

Adding a little lavender oil to any skin lotion slows inflammation and helps repair skin. Note, if your are using essential oil, just a few drops per 4 ounces of lotion is all you need.

* Herbal remedies for hot flashes

One excellent remedy for hot flashes is licorice root extract or tea. The tea is delicious  and soothing. However, there are cautions.

Taking too much licorice root can lead to water retention, hypertension and loss of potassium. It should not be used for persons suffering from heart problems or blood pressure issues.

We have new pages up on treating hot flashes naturally. If this is an issue, please visit our helpful pages on remedies for hot flashes.

* Finding time to exercise

Our ancestors never had to explain why they weren’t active. My how things have changed.

Now we have a whole bookful of “reasons” for why we can’t work out. But at the very top of excuses, or reasons, NO TIME.

But really, the problem is rarely time, it’s really energy and management of time. Very few people have "no time."

One strategy, use half you lunch hour, 3x weekly, to get in a quick session. You may want to have some of those baby wipes on hand to give yourself a quick wipe down after session.

* Supplement to prevent heart attack

This isn’t such a surprise. I’m sure you’ve all heard of the benefits of taking a baby aspirin every day to ward off cardiovascular attacks such as a stroke or heart attack.

I think it’s a good idea to take one if you’re over 40 years of age and not in Olympic shape.

To be sure, research confirms that a little more than a baby aspirin every day  helps even more. Also it’s best to take the aspirin right before bed to help prevent the usually noted early morning sludgy blood.

I take a baby aspirin after breakfast and before bed.

* Natural herbal remedy for sugar cravings

A wonderful herb from India lends us two excellent benefits to aid with sugar problems and cravings.

Gymnema sylvestre helps to regulate insulin which is a boon for people with sugar metabolism difficulties. It also appears to reduce the felt taste sensation that sugar provides. That is, sugar will not taste as wonderful as it usually does.

* Herbal tea to keep thin

We’ve referenced rooibos tea before because it is chock full of benefits including being rich in antioxidants. Add slimming to its list of happy benefits.

Having a couple of cups of rooibos tea per day appears to help drinkers get rid of stubborn fat mostly due to its diuretic properties (ie gets rid of stagnant water).

* Relieving hunger

A really effective plan to reduce hunger, reduce fat.

Eat more, more quality, more often, more low glycemic foods. Bodybuilders who have to be acutely aware and on top of their bodies and fat level, have known this “trick” for years.

The strategy includes having small meals, spacing them out every 2 - 3 hours for a total of 5 - 6 daily, include plenty of fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, no empty calories and lots of water between meals.

Here are some great meal ideas:

Hard boiled egg, slice of whole grain toast

An apple with 8 unshelled nuts including almonds, walnuts, pecans and hazelnuts

Turkey slice wrapped around a thin piece of celery or lettuce & turkey wraps. Five or six should be good.

A salad made of some combination of onions, lettuce, tomatoes, small cheese chunks, hard boiled egg, a few ounces of tuna & olives

A burger on one slice of whole grain bread, side of tomato, lettuce, onion and pickle

A bioled or baked sweet potato or yam. You can eat with a bit of salt or mash it with a bit of sweetener, cinnamon and ginger.

You get the idea.
