There are two great epidemics in America that widely effect the entire population: Cancer, and the unavailability of nutritious foods. We are seeing food-like products take over the importance that foods themselves used to carry in our lives. Cancer is claiming millions of lives a year across the nation and is one of the most widespread medical conditions. With these two great issues plaguing the nation, it should come as no surprise that there’s some overlap between the two. Studies show that people who are more prone to eat healthier food options are less likely to develop cancer. However, this isn’t a guarantee as cancers like mesothelioma are caused by a number of different environmental factors while other cancers are linked to genetic factors. People, clearly, can still get cancer even if they eat healthy foods for their entire lives. But there is also a positive correlation for those that eat nutritious foods during the time that they have cancer and during remission. Eating the right foods is in no way a cure, but it can help keep your energy levels up, your spirits high, and possibly help prevent it from coming back once you’re in remission.

Higher Energy Levels:

Between cancer and chemotherapy, it’s difficult to determine which takes more energy out of people. Both require a lot of energy from the patient, essentially sapping them dry so that they can have a fighting chance. However, a healthy diet can help provide higher energy levels when the appropriate amount of carbohydrates and proteins are added to the diet. Carbohydrates are the healthiest source of energy for the body that isn’t pure sugars. They burn slower and last longer. Proteins help repair damage done to the body during recovery processes. Foods like legumes are great, healthy sources of proteins.

Keeps Your Spirits High:

Studies have shown that eating well helps people feel more positively about themselves. This is because a lot of the cheap sugars we see in terrible diets can foster chemical imbalances in the brain that propagate depression. Eating healthy can bring about a more positive outlook. Positivity is one of the most important things someone can have when they’ve been diagnosed, contending, or living in remission with cancer.

They Can Help Prevent the Cancer Returning:

Studies have shown that healthy eating has been known to reduce the risk of cancer happening in the body. This is imperative because those who have had cancer once before are more likely to have it again. Eating healthy will, at least somewhat, counteract the previous prevalence.
