Happy Halloween!

Since so many of our homes will be flooded with candy today, I thought that I’d go ahead and recommend some healthier alternatives.  Let me preface this by letting you know that I don’t have a big sweet tooth and can easily pass on candy corn and peanut butter cups.  Warm bread and soft pretzels are a whole other story…

But if candy is your weakness, there is absolutely no shame in indulging in a few pieces today.  After all, it is Halloween and Michael’s birthday.  :)

Sweet, chewy, and delicious- they are called nature’s candy for good reason.


I’m talking bars like Larabar, KIND, and KIT’s Organic that are made with just a few simple ingredients.  Some flavors can even satisfy cravings for salty and sweet foods.


One of my favorite sweet beverages during the fall and winter is some hot chocolate made with unsweetened almond milk and raw cacao powder.  You can also add cinnamon, stevia, or use unsweetened chocolate almond milk if you’re a true chocoholic.


I find these in the bulk bin section of Whole Foods and Earth Fare.  They’re a much healthier alternative to regular chocolate chips when you’re baking, and they can also be sprinkled over yogurt, added to homemade trail mix and smoothies, or eaten all on their own.


You’ve heard me talk about how much I love this stuff countless times before, so I won’t get into too much detail again.  It basically tastes like chocolate milk, and I’d like to funnel it into my mouth.


This means dark chocolates that are made with real cocoa- not M&Ms and Hershey bars.  My personal favorite are the truffles by Alter Ego because they are made with coconut oil.  Even MT loves them!

    I’m with you I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but breads or pretzels watch out hehe.

    I’ve been craving soft pretzels from NYC which is a problem since I live in North Carolina! LOL. Happy Halloween to you too!

    Great list. We don’t have some of these here, be we haves dates and Europe is full of good quality dark chocolate :)

    Haha. Sometimes I feel like I should keep all of these things that I love to myself because then I won’t be able to find them in the stores anymore! :)
