Happy Valentine’s Day

Posted Feb 14 2012 1:18pm

Well, hello there! I’m not sure who, if any of you, noticed my short absence. I’ve been quite the busy bee. I’ve been working my little tush off. Last Thursday, I worked a wine party and even got to keep a bottle for myself! Friday, I hostessed and Saturday was my first time on the floor on my own. I only spilled one drink and forgot to put in one salad. Otherwise, everything went alright. Needless to say, after a late Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, I was exhausted on Sunday and slept until my body couldn’t anymore. How Joe does it? I don’t know. I still managed to workout and keep up with healthy meals like these.

Sunday morning, we went to the grocery store and got everything to make bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. The kind that the yolk breaks and runs all over your plate and you have to eat it in two minutes because if you put it down, it’s falling apart. That’s my kind of egg sandwich! We went to his sister’s house for his nieces birthday party and then came back home to relax the rest of the night. It was much needed.

Yesterday, I was technically off, but Joe needed me to cover the floor during lunch at his other restaurant because he was going to be helping with some construction going on in the basement and there was only one server/bartender on the floor. Lindsay is awesome so I didn’t mind hanging there for a while.

Today, I’m back in action. Joe and I got to the gym around 7:30 and I got right into an upper body and core workout.

I finished up with 10 minutes of intervals on the elliptical and 20 minutes of intervals on the treadmill (20 second sprint at 9.0, 40 second rest at 6.5).

Because Joe and I are both working on Valentine’s Day, we exchanged last night. He showed up with flowers when he got home from work. :)

He’s always been a flowers kind of guy, and I’m okay with that because I never buy flowers or plants for the house. Maybe I should start. Anyway, I enjoyed my breakfast over this beautiful bouquet.

Some of the tulip leaves already started to wilt! I think it’s because of the heat. Sadness.

Peanut butter puffins made a return this morning, on top of a smoothie bowl (frozen banana, almond milk, vanilla protein powder, blueberries, spinach, and dark cocoa powder).

Oh, back to the presents! I got Joe a mish mosh of funny and cute things that he really enjoyed!

  • Ice Age (we die laughing every time this movie comes on, so I figured we needed to own it!)
  • NY Yankees Tervis tumbler for his smoothies
  • lip kiss boxers
  • a huge Reese’s peanut butter heart
  • Valentine peanut M&M’s
  • chocolate covered strawberry peeps
  • mints

The best, though, may have been this card:

I could be loading the dishwasher right in front of him, and he would still take his dirty plate and place it in the sink. Come on! He loved it.

We will probably celebrate with dinner sometime next week. Working in the restaurant industry means definitely not celebrating Valentine’s Day on the actual day. I actually would rather wait, because everywhere is packed tonight and it’s not as romantic. I’ll be serving a lot of couples tonight I assume, and hopefully I don’t ruin anyone’s Valentine’s day by popping a bottle of explosive champagne!

If you’re celebrating, have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
