(Happy?) Memorial Day

Posted May 31 2010 12:00am
In honor of those that have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice the husband and I decided to head into downtown Fayetteville and explore the Special Operations and Airborne Museum before it closed down for the holiday weekend. I love going to museums and frequented them while living in DC so I wasn't expecting too much when we arrived here but wow, my expectations were surpassed! The museum was AMAZING. We learned a lot about the history of Special Forces, Rangers, and the Airborne Infantry units and even got to enjoy a ride that simulates riding a humvee through the mountains of Afghanistan, riding in a blackhawk, and jumping from a C-130. The husband said the last one felt pretty accurate. Walking through the museum I was touched by how many men have given their lives for this great nation and how much our military has gone through to secure the things we take for granted everyday. It really puts things into perspective especially with the husband gearing up for his first and certainly not his last, deployment.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from our day
My Husband's unit!

In light of this somber holiday I hope that people today will pause for a moment while surrounded by their loved ones, a hot grill and cold beer to remember those that died in service to their country. Who are you going to remember?

Thank you for all those that have paid the ultimate price for our nations freedom and for those that are still serving to protect us. To my father, my two brothers and my amazing husband - I appreciate your service with much gratitude and respect.
