Happy Love Month! I’m Breaking-up with Booze.

Posted Feb 01 2011 4:28pm

Last night, Mark and I cheers’d with a couple of beers to say Goodbye to January and helllllooo to Feb. Once it hits February, I optimistically feel as though the darkest of the Winter days are over and now we are headed for sunshine and new adventures. I’m ignoring the fact that the weatherman is predicting snow AGAIN this week, Spring is coming.

February is also the “Love” month, but I’m going a step further and declaring it the Love(Yourself) Month. For many, many years I was very uncomfortable with the phrase “Love Yourself.” I though it was narcissistic, self-righteous, and self-centered. Not to mention, I didn’t really Love Myself. I could list my many faults and flaws on cue. But disliking or even hating who you are is harmful, exhausting and restrictive.

Step one to Love: taking care of yourself. “Resolution” month has come and past. Many of you (me included) may feel like you still have some unfinished business; goals that got swept under the rug and carried away by a snow plow. But there is always now.

Which brings me to Beer Cheers Reason #2. I’m breaking up with booze this month. Let me disclaim, I am not a heavy drinker, but Happy Hours, work events and at-home beer tastings with Mark and the crew are frequent occurrences in my social calendar. For a while now I’ve been wanting to give my body a little alco-detox and thought, “what better time than now.”

So, I declare to you blog friends, that this month I am breaking up with booze and will let you know how I am progressing through the month. I’m allowing myself 3 get out of jail free cards, reserved for only a glass or two on Valentine’s Day, a work gala I am attending and our housewarming party at the end of the month. I’m inviting you to join me (don’t forget that February is the shortest month of the year!). I’m hoping for clarity, more energy and earlier mornings.

To all my lushies out there – have you ever taken a break from the bottle?
