Happy Birthday to the World’s Best Sister {And a Slutty Brownie Recipe to Celebrate}

Today is my sister’s 26th birthday and I’m celebrating this very special day with brownies, slutty brownies to be precise. Although I won’t actually get to spend the day with Christina I can’t just go about the day pretending it’s just another Sunday.

I actually woke up bright and early early-ish and immediately headed into the kitchen to start baking. Slutty brownies are a creation I first heard from through Rose from the Londoner . When I was visiting my sister the last time we invited our brother over for dinner and whipped these brownies up for dessert. They’re quite decadent, rich and just a tiny bit naughty.

A brownie as such is already fairly bombastic, if you add a scoop of ice cream it just elevates the culinary enjoyment….but nowhere near the level of enjoyment you’ll get out of eating these slutty brownies. They are a combination of some of the most wonderful things ever created: a cookie dough bottom, fudgy brownies and a thin layer of oreo cookies oozing between those layers.

I wish I could pop over to London this morning and hand-deliver this treat to my sister. We could hang out all day, talk, eat, laugh and reflect on all those birthdays that we’ve celebrated together. Unfortunately though I’ll have to wait another few days until I see her. In the meantime I’ll just spend the day devouring this treat by myself, one piece at a time. And if I’m nice enough I’ll share leftovers with my friends at work tomorrow!

Slutty Brownies

Slutty Brownies

very slightly adapted from this recipe from What’s Gaby Cooking which was inspired by this recipe


  • 18 oreos

For the cookie dough layer:

  • 110g butter
  • 50g brown sugar
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 170g flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 75g dark chocolate chips

For the brownie layer:

  • 150g butter
  • 220g sugar
  • 70g cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 85g flour
  • optionally: splash of milk


Preheat the oven to 175°C.

For the cookie dough layer:

Cream together the butter and sugars with a hand mixer. Once combined add the egg and vanilla and continue beating for another 20 seconds.Fold in the flour and baking powder using a spatula. At the very end add the dark chocolate chips. I used my hands to mix those in.

For the brownie layer:

Melt the butter over medium heat. Add in the sugar and cocoa and using a hand mixer beat until combined Add in the eggs and vanilla and beat until slightly thickened.At the end stir in the flour. If you feel that the batter is too thick add a splash of milk.

To assemble:

Line a baking tin with parchment paper or grease with butter or cooking spray. Press the cookie dough layer into the pan using your hands. On top of that layer the oreos. Then add the brownie layer on top. Bake for 35 minutes and enjoy while still warm.
