So, I guess I'm about half way through my half marathon training and I really have no complaints! So far, everything is going well and I think the most important goal (to finish the damn thing!) is looking very probable indeed.
My other goal for the next two months in the run up to the half mara are to remain injury free. That's the reason why I have decided to take an extra rest day each week if I do a super long run (or leave it at yoga or stretching if I'm dying to work out) is because risking injury would be devastating!
I have ran the full half marathon distance twice in the last few weeks, each under 2 hours which I'm well chuffed with. Both runs left me slightly worse for wear the following few days (VERY stiff hamstrings!) but apart from soreness and tired joints I don't feel any niggles or injuries coming on. And if I run the actual race under 2 hours, I'd be delighted!
I am going to aim to run at least twice a week if possible, with 3 runs a week preferable, up until a few weeks before the race when I shall begin the longed for glorious taper! Oooh, that sweet sweet taper.. I'm gonna love it! Or not. I've heard it drives some people bananas?
Everything is a learning curve right now as I never attempted anything like this before. I might do things totally different for the next time I train, but this first time is going to be a really good learning experience.
RIP shoesI have my Camelbak now (which is pretty much an essential for me on those long runs!) and my next few purchases shall be new running shoes (this is a MUST!) and some of those clip around funny headphone do-dars that don't ping out when you're running to music. Oh! And a new sports bra! Is it just me, or are Shock Absorber bras really truly crap?! I have had nowt but trouble with it every since I got it... :(
I'm off work today (hence the fact that I am actually BLOGGING for once!!) as my Mam is flying down to visit as I type. I'm gonna drag her into Sports Direct and she can help me shop for running gear! (She'll love that I'm sure..)
Anyone else training for their first half marathon? How are you guys getting on?
