Green Makes You Sparkle You may think you look good in black. It's slimming and chic but well black on a plate is not so good. Today we're talking favourite colours that will make us look good not just for today with the hot black pumps or cool running shoes but colours that will make us glow in the long run.
I have known a few people in my life who say, they hate vegetables. And what this translates into in a practical nature is that when they make or order food the vegetable that they order is either always a potato or is deep fried. Yes I suppose deep battered and deep fried zucchini is still somewhat green but it really misses the point entirely.
The reason me, your mother and everyone else on the planet extols 'eating your veggies' is because they are packed with disease fighting, immune boosting capabilities. This foods have power, they are the super heros of the palate and can make a huge impact on your health in the short term and long term. Veggies are the number one disease fighters around, including cancer.
Eat Something Colorful at EVERY Meal: You may have had your doctor ask you do you eat 5-10 servings of vegetables a day? And you probably lied and said yes. Hmmm. Okay I know it seems like a lot and you're a busy person not a cow grazing on a field with lots of time to just move around and eat so it can seem overwhelming but really we can make this work.
The key to getting all the fruits and veggies you need everyday is adding a little color to every single meal.
Breakfast - add fruit and greens like romaine lettuce or spinach or kale to your smoothie - the fruit and smoothie mix will hide any bitter flavour.
or add a banana or dried fruit to your cereal, add apple slices - whatever is easy
For lunch have salad with whatever you are eating or bring some fruit or slice up something truly bright like a red or green pepper, celery, carrots, you name it.
Dinner is easy because you have more time, make sure any protein is accompanied by a vegetable that hasn't gone for a swim in oil.
Why eat more fruits and vegetables?
They are full of phytonutrients - an amazing group of naturally occurring nutrients that fight many diseases, inflammation and yes even Cancer.
They are full of fiber - meaning your bum will like them too.
Eat some raw- our body likes consuming live good because it has active enzymes in it that help our body break done the food we're eating.
Because you ass will look better and you'll have less cellulite.
All parts of your body need the nutrients found in fruits and veggies so if you don't eat them eventually you will look really bad. sorry but that's the truth.
You'll lose weight and have higher energy levels.
The Dinner Plate Made Simple:
Remember when we talked about portions? Here's the good news when you eat green and colorful natural foods you really don't have to put a limit on them. In fact green gets my full plate go ahead. Don't limit yourself - eat as much green as you like.
So if you have a dinner plate with your deck of cards portion of meat then the rest of your plate should be full of fresh and cooked vegetables. That's how your plate should look and no you don't need a side order of white pasta with this.
Some of my favourite fruit and veggies:
Sweet potatoes - love them and the colour denotes more nutrients than it's white and boring potato relative.
Broccoli - a true cancer fighter that has loads of fiber and taste, steamed with olive oil and garlic - heaven.
Kale - I love kale - it is extolled for it's amazing amount of green power. You can add it to almost any dish.
Organic corn on the cob - Need i say more - the non-organic GMO stuff has been shown to case organ failure in animals so i'd avoid it. Go organic with any corn product.
Peaches - juicy, sweet, fibrous and almost as good as sex on a hot day.
Raspberries - my absolute favourite berry - they are super high in fiber and they have a great taste that means you can add them to salads.
Eat Green Rules of Engagement:
Green is power - you should think of green stuff as your food hero.
Colour denotes a good amount of phytonutrients so go for brightly colored fruits and veggies - no this doesn't include m and m's or candies - those are dyes - not naturally occurring good for you colors. Nice try though.
Add something raw to each meal - this gives you adding nutrition and enzymes.
Make other people feel bad when they don't eat green - make green sound exciting. Sounds silly but making kids understand that vegetables have amazing powers will translate into a long term vegetable
Excuses are bullshit - you know when you don't go for that run in the morning because you say you'll do it later in the day - well we all know that means you're not going to do anything that day. If you make an excuse why you shouldn't eat vegetables something lame like, 'they taste bad' your health will pay for it.
Learn how to cook vegetables - if you seriously think veggies taste bad - you don't know how to prepare them - so take a vegetarian cooking class and get excited about food again!
Eating green is a great long term decision that will pay off, you'll feel better, look sexier and likely have less health problems.
