The overwhelming trend of going green has become huge in the last decade, with activists and campaigns that seem to pop up all over the streets and on the back of cars. Most of the people behind green initiatives point towards the large scale environmental impact as the reason for change, but there are also many advantages that have a direct impact on an individual’s life. Living an eco-friendly lifestyle has been recently shown to be a major help to cancer patients.
A large part of the initiative to get cancer patients to live eco-friendly lifestyle is the point that lower risk of cancer will come with better health and nutrition. Being a part of a green lifestyle will only help others to make the better and healthier choices. Some cancer patients have used vegetables and fruits to help during their treatment, but there are some growing options of other nutritional items that are having an impact also.
Breast cancer patients have been the focus of most studies involving cancer and going green. Recent research concluded that with an influx of eco friendly lifestyle choices, quality of life and life expectancy are heavily improved within certain cancer patients. The use of green tea as a supplement has also been explored as a major help to patients. Using green tea regularly has been shown to help lower any possible risk of recurring. The regular drinking of green tea has actually been discovered to block the development and growth of tumors. A recent study at USC was conducted on 500 breast cancer patients. Within the study, patients who were found to have consumed green tea were likely to be healthier. They also found that drinking as little as six tablespoons a day of green tea could cut down 30 percent of the risk of breast cancer.
The stories of patients who have taken on eco-friendly lifestyles are also important. A good example of this includes Paul Kraus, a mesothelioma cancer survivor. This is a cancer that involves a tumor in the lining of the chest and abs, resulting from asbestos exposure. Even though routine treatment like chemo and radiation were common, Kraus chose instead to adapt an alternative treatment method that included natural healing practices. He used an eco-friendly and green diet, as well as heavy mediation and exercise sessions to outlive what was expected of him. Even though the average survival rate of mesothelioma patients is only one year, Kraus has lived today 14 years longer than expected. Taking on a green lifestyle is simply proving to be more and more beneficial. With increased campaigning and exposure to green initiatives, this type of lifestyle will only help to make the environment and our people healthier.
