Guess who's back, guess who's back…

Posted Sep 28 2010 9:53pm

My, oh, my. Time sure does fly… does it not?

Believe it or not, it’s been over a month and a half since my last blog entry due to my blogging hiatus . It was a much needed break, though, and I am glad to be making a comeback. I know I said to expect me back around April, when my second job would be ending, but I am extending my contract with my employer and won’t be finishing up until the beginning of August. WAY too long to stay away from my favorite bloggers, for sure!

So, what have you missed?

1. Lots of oatmeal breakfasts… no surprise there, right?

2. A new haircut

3. A stress fracture

Remember when my foot starting hurting in October? At the time I thought I was suffering from sesamoiditis . I took a week off intitally, but the pain was still there when I started running again. So, I took about a month off from running in November. When I first took back to the road my foot seemed to be doing pretty well. The pain was definitely less intense, but there was still a nagging ache that never went away. Nevertheless, I continued running and training for the 2010 Tokyo Marathon 10K . Dumb move on my part!

After a nice little visit to the local hospital and two X-rays later I know FOR SURE what is wrong with my right foot. It’s called a stress fracture and it hurts. The doctor was super nice when trying to break the bad news to me: no running or high impact activity for two months! And that means no 10K on my birthday, either, unfortunately. He did say I could run the race, if I was dead-set on it, but the small crack in my foot would only get bigger the more I run and needs real rest to heal.

*gulp* I decided it’s better to take one for the team and sit on the sidelines this time.

4. Intuitive Eating

The last time we were together I was a calorie-counting machine. Now, not so much. Lately I have been eating whatever I want and not worrying about it. I’ve read “The Rules of Normal Eating” and “Intuitive Eating” since the beginning of this year, and I am really interested in making this a way of eating FOR LIFE for myself. But that’s tougher than it sounds. I’m kind of all over the place when it comes to food and nutrition right now.

The only thing I know for sure is that the content of this blog won’t be the same as pre-hiatus. I was mainly focused on food blogging and how much can I safely exercise in a week prior to my break. Now, I hope to focus on eating mindfully and healthily, as well as loving myself and my body at whatever size it may be. My posts might contain food pictures… or they might not. Either way, I am sure this transition will be an interesting one.

I will be keeping you abreast (Hah! Love that word!) of the ever-interesting and evolving life I am living in Japan. I’m not promising to post daily, though, because I know that it’s not possible for me at the current time.

Hold on tight, folks. I’m back and I hope you still want to read about my journey.
