Last Saturday, me and two of my girlfriends, Tricia and Lindsy, returned to Grunch at Alias in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I’ve been to Alias a few times before with Mark; I like it because there’s never a super long wait, but the food is delicious. Bonus, Village Voice named Alias one of their 10 best restaurants in the LES in 2010.
We waited about 20 minutes, which is short compared to other lines you’ll find in New York on a Sunday. Of course, brunch drinks were necessary – coffee, mimosa and bloody mary’s.
Besides the main meals, me and Tricia split a side of biscuits with the most heavenly jam we’ve ever tasted. Tricia nicknamed it “sex jam,” and she was pretty on the money. We asked the waiter what kind it was, to which he replied “raspberry,” as if it was standard Smucker’s. He must not have tried the jam.
Between the three of us, we ordered huevos rancheros, meaty breakfast burrito and an avocado BLT. I asked the waiter to hold the B on the BLT, but they forgot, hence the picture. But after I got rid of the bacon, it was full on avo-goodness.
As always, grunch is more about the company than the food, but I’ll always recommend Alias as a standard, awesome brunch place. No frills – but great food.
