I can’t even thank you all enough for all the virtual *hugs* the positive vibes, and kind words this week about my Grandmother and about my little baby, Munchkin.
We are happy to report that
Munchkin is doing well, and recovering tonight in the comfort of his own home!!!
My mother in law was wonderful today. She met me at the Vet Hospital at 7:15 this morning, Munchkin and I were there…him in his favorite mesh laundry bin (he refused to get in his carrier, and I wasn’t forcing him), with his favorite blanket that I made him. The vet met us and took us into a room to stress me out a little more with information talk about all of our options. She was really great and thorough, I just was not keen the idea of him having major abdominal surgery and the possibility of cutting into his intestines, but if it needed to be done to make sure he was ok, I was open to it.
I had been up since 3am worrying about him, looking for him to come lye in bed with me. It was terrible…I haven’t slept that bad in a really long time. When we got to the vet, she told me if it made me feel better she was up all night thinking of him too, she was trying to find the best option for me (this is the vet from the emergency hospital, not my vet that did the swab that got broken off in his throat ). I said, as long as she was rested enough to work on him, it made me feel better knowing she obsessed as much as I do about my pet. (Also, in defense of my vet, that the mistake happened with, I know she did not mean for it to happen, and she was concerned and came to the hospital yesterday with us, I wasn’t happy about it happening in the first place, it was one of the worst moments of my life, but she did her part in making it right.)
They took Munchkin back for more Xrays, bloodwork, and to insert a catheter. When they were through they let him come back in the room with me to hang out and wait until they were ready for the procedure.

As the vet suspected, the wooden Q tip was not showing up on the X-ray, so our options were:
A. Doing the scope, seeing if they can grab it.
B. Doing the scope, if they can’t find it go right into abdominal surgery to look for it.
C. Do nothing and hope it passes without it poking through and causing more problems than what we started with.
I opted for option B. as upset as I was about the surgery, Michael and my mother in law both said there was no way I could bring him home not knowing. We would all be crazy worrying about something happening and watching him. I probably wouldn’t leave the house until all his poppy was sifted through for the next week.
While we were waiting, Munchkin managed to lye on top of his carrier. I have no idea how this could of been comfortable…I set up a blanket and a whole area for him on the bench…but it was like he only wanted the carrier. He wanted NOTHING to do with it when I wanted to put him in there this morning, but who understands his logic:
They finally came to take him down for the scope around 9:45. My mother in law and I waited as patiently as we could in the room for an update. I was praying that he ONLY needed the scope, nothing more (surgery would be more major, and he would be in there for the next 2-3 days). Finally, around 10:45 the vet came in with a paper towel and this:

(poor quality, cell phone pic)
that little bugger managed to swallow one of his rubber bands ENTIRELY last night. He must of done it right when we got home, because as advised, I went around and put away anything he may chew or swallow.
Munchkin NEVER, EVER, EVER swallowed anything before. He has been playing with these thicker rubber bands for years, we never had an issue (I won’t give him the smaller ones). I always let him have the real thick rubber bands from my celery, it’s one of his favorite toys! He keeps it with his food bowl (along with ALL his other toys) and he must of been
so hungry looking for his food yesterday when he wasn’t allowed to eat that he gobbled this up. Like I said, he must of done it within the first 10 minutes of being home, because I actually was looking for the rubber band to put away with his other toys and couldn’t find it!
I can not BELIEVE he ate it! He has NEVER done that before…yesterday after swallowing the Q-tip he was on a roll!
The Q-tip was
very sharp and splintery where it broke off, so I am SO HAPPY she was able to get it out before it moved into his intestines. It was two inches long, and I could definitely see it causing a problem!
Bottom line–no surgery! Whoo Hoo!
I was not able to pick him up until about 3:30, once he recovered from the anesthesia, so I went home. This morning I was so upset, so sleep deprived, etc, that I didn’t even eat a proper breakfast. I took about a handful of my cereal in a baggy to the Vet, but that wasn’t enough –so I couldn’t wait to get home and eat. I made some Ezekial Raisin toast, and just relaxed a little in relief. Micheal brought me a veggie delight for lunch then I did something that I have been trying to do all week, but never managed to…..
I FINALLY got to THE GYM! I had nothing to do but wait, and the worrying was over.
It felt GREAT to get back in there today. My workout was rather light,
cardio for 30 minutes and
a lot of stretching. I wanted to lift, but didn’t have much time to get to Whole Foods for dinner before we picked up our baby.

I got a few simple ingredients for Michael and I …
and a treat for my Munchkin from the salad bar:
Munchi LOVES his chicken, even though I try to keep him strictly on duck. Michael always gives him some though…I have no control over it
We went to go get our little guy…and he was still a little groggy, but willing to go RIGHT into his carrier and come home. The vet went over things with us, and wanted us to observe him and the state he was in to make sure we didn’t have any concerns…and then we were ready to bring baby home
Munchkin’s original birth name by me was “Oscar”–but Munchkin seemed to stick and fit better…it was to late to change all the paperwork, so we stick with this “birth name” at the vet
Back where he belongs:
In his favorite spot, on his favorite folded hamper, with his new favorite toy
…still a little groggy, but ready for a major bath!
While Munchkin went to town cleaning himself
(guess being in a cage all day made him feel icky), I prepared a simple dinner: Cauliflower,
Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Broiled Lump Crabcakes

I also had stuff to make a simple field greens salad with my
Cranberry Balsamic Dressing –yum

I am off to go snuggle, kiss and love on him some more. BIG thanks again to all of you for thinking of us and for all the positive vibes. I REALLY truly believe that it helped.
No one was confident that he was going to ONLY need a scope. The vet, Michael and even myself thought he was going to need surgery, and we were hoping and praying he wouldn’t. I think
all the positive energy from all over the world helped us today, as corny as that sounds

I am also
SO grateful to the Vet that took care of Munchkin. She was truly amazing, and really did care about his well-being (
the fact that she obsessed all day yesterday, talked to several colleagues, experimented with broken swabs in water to see if it would dissolve, and so on). It was great to know he was in good hands

Enjoy the rest of your night! Major hugs to you all!
xxoo
