I’m glad you all liked the biscuits I made yesterday – I think they’d taste just as good without the ranch seasoning too. I don’t think I’ve said this before, but I LOVE biscuits. My parents used to (still do?) call me the Biscuit Queen because at meals when we had biscuits or croissants I’d always finish them up I just love them! If anyone has a good recipe for Biscuits and Gravy I would love to have it.
On Sunday I picked up some groceries for the week. This grocery challenge was pretty easy the first week, but I can tell it is going to be TOUGH in the next 3 weeks. But I’m determined to get through it.
My tip for this week is to check out multiple stores before purchasing. Thankfully you can find most advertisements online, and that is just what I did on Sunday morning. I checked out 3 local grocery stores online ads and made my list that way. It only saved me a few dollars, but those dollars add up! I ended up going to one grocery store and Target.
Here is what I got at Target
Chips – $2.25 (sale)
Gum – 99 cents
Clif Shotbloks – $1.99 – with my coupon this was free!
Total: $3.45
Next I went to Cub Foods (our local chain)
eggs
2 bell peppers – 2/$3 (sale)
2 sweet potatoes
refried beans –99 cents (sale)
Almond milk 3.99 – 1.00 coupon = $2.99
2 Coke 2 liters – $1 each (sale)
Organic spinach tub – $2.99 (sale, normally $4.99)
bag of apples – $3.79 (99 cents per pound, sale)
bananas
sweet onion – 54 cents (sale)
Total: $21.79
You’ll notice that I didn’t buy any more diet soda. I will not be buying any more for the month of May. I have been telling myself that I “need” the caffeine boost during the day, but I don’t know if that is true or not. I’m going to slowly wean myself off (I only had ½ can today) because I do not want raging caffeine headaches Wish me luck!
But back to the grocery challenge – I spent a total of $25.24. Here are our monthly totals:
Grocery money spent: $49.61 ($150.39 for the rest of May)
Restaurant money spent: $20 (out to eat Saturday night, so we have $80 left for rest of May)
Not bad, eh??
I will be happy when this challenge is over, but I’m so glad I decided to go for it. I’ve had fun using up the foods we already have, plus I feel like I’ve been baking/cooking much more than I was in the past.
We had another nice dinner at the table yesterday
Tilapia Tacos!
I had a lone tilapia filet in the freezer, so I cooked that up and served it with shredded romaine, sautéed chopped onion and red bell pepper, some mashed avocado, salsa and flour tortillas.
*So seriously, if you have a good recipe for biscuits and gravy, give it to me! I need it.
*What is your take on soda – diet or regular. Bad idea or ok once in a while? I’m just curious.
