Posted Jul 25 2011 2:03am

Green tea has always been one of the staples in diets of the residents of Thailand, India, China and Japan. This tea is known to act as a stress reliever; in this article we have tried to find how.

The antioxidant effect of green tea:
Green tea contains a powerful antioxidant called catechins; this agent helps in reducing the overall oxidative stress on our system. Catechins are particularly effective in reducing the stress on our kidneys, more so if we have renal diseases. If you rink green tea regularly, the toxin production your body will be inhibited and there will be no further damage to your kidney cells.

Green tea protects against immune stresses:
Consuming green tea regularly, protects us against the stresses that may erode the defense mechanism of our body. Erosion of the body’s defense mechanism might lead to serious health disorders like cancer. Medical studies have shown that green tea possesses the ability of inhibiting every stage of cancer. Green tea is rich in another antioxidant called the polyphenol antioxidants; these antioxidants help in reducing liver toxicity.

The caffeine blocking properties of green tea:
Green tea can successfully reduce stress due to its caffeine blocking properties. Green tea contains amino acids known as Theanine. Theanine is the agent responsible for the flavor of green tea. 50% of the amino acids present in green tea are of this type. Theanine is particularly known for promoting the production of the antioxidants that fight free radicals within our system. Theanine is also known to provide a destressing and calming effect. This amino acid has the ability of crossing the barrier between bloods and brain and thus can successfully block stimulating properties of caffeine.  Theanine is also known for enhancing the effects of medicine prescribed for the treatment of cancer; moreover, it will also reduce the side effects of cancer drugs.
