Green Smoothies

I admit it, I jumped on the Green Smoothie bandwagon a couple of years ago.  But it is such a great idea!  How else can a person get in so much spinach and fiber and nutrients all in one delicious, easy to swallow, drink?

This is where I first read about Green Smoothies .  There is a lot of information on her site.  As for recipes, if you google “Green Smoothie” you will find a plethora of them.  This is my basic Green Smoothie.

1 ½ cups spinach
½ cup soy milk
Fruit – cantaloupe, watermelon, pears, berries.  Frozen fruit also works, I usually have frozen peaches, mangos, berries and cherries in my freezer
1 scoop Amazing Grass powder
1 tablespoon chia seeds or flax seed
1 teaspoon extra virgin organic coconut oil
A few ice cubes

We have a Vitamix blender at work and it is amazing.  The smoothie comes out so smooth and creamy; I’m definitely saving my pennies for one of these.  But at home I have a cheap basic blender, it does the job but not as smoothly and there are always little ice chips in there.

Spinach is fantastic, look at these nutrients in 30g of spinach (that is about one ounce and also about one cup):

If you eat three ounces of spinach a day you would be getting lots of antioxidants for not very many calories.  And if you drink it while relaxing outside on a sunny day you will be healthier mentally and emotionally.

Here are some other variations of recipes for Green Smoothies:

1 cup 1% milk
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 scoop protein powder
2 cups spinach
1 small frozen banana
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
A few ice cubes

1 scoop chocolate Amazing Grass
1 cup soymilk
1 frozen banana
Lots of spinach
1 tbsp peanut butter
3 ice cubes

2 cups spinach
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup soymilk
1 carrot, shredded
top with pumpkin seeds

1 cup almond milk
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 frozen banana
handful frozen raspberries
3 handfuls spinach
¼ cup plain greek yogurt

1/2 banana
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
3 frozen mango chunks
4 frozen strawberries
6 frozen cherries
Lots of spinach
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon flax oil
top with a sprinkling of cinnamon

1 cup cantaloupe
1 cup Soy milk
some ice cupbes
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Lots of spinach
1 T flax seed
1 small banana
