Going Green

Posted Mar 18 2011 3:17pm
Did ya’ll get a chance to show your St. Patty’s day spirit yesterday? Even though I am by no means Irish, I was able to celebrate the fun and festive holiday. I had an exam until 3:30 but came home and immediately started getting ready. I met up with a bunch of my friends and we partied the night away (or afternoon should I say). For the past 4 years, the weather in Michigan has been absolutely gorgeous for this green celebration! We have totally lucked out!

I went to one of my classes yesterday and seriously over half of the students were absent. East Lansing goes totally crazy for St. Patty’s (or should I say St. Fratty’s day). After a few hours of roaming around (from house to house) we made our way to the bar. We decided to go to this really nice Irish Pub called Dublins. The outside deck was jam packed with people – below is a picture of one of my good friends from my sorority named Kelsey. She has a boyfriend that goes to U of M so I hardly ever get to hang out with her – it was fun to see her!

On a totally different subject I want to send a thank you out to Carrie over at Moves and Munchies . A few weeks ago she posted (as a guest blogger) about her new amazing creation: Fudgies. Oh. My. Lordy. These things are the best and they are seriously so very easy to make. Literally in a matter of minutes you have a chocolatey and delicious treat. All you do is mix together 2 tables spoons of cocoa powder, stevia (I used liquid vanilla stevia), and  a little water. Personally I love them after they have been in the fridge for a while. Yesterday I made about 10 of them to last me the entire week. Thanks Carrie – you da besttt!

Let change the subject a bit and talk about the new Starbucks logo. What are your thoughts? At first, I was a little skeptical… I gotta say, change is hard! Lately, I have been totally loving on it though. I think it is so cute with more of a fresh and modern take.

Now it’s time for a review! The incredibly generous folks over at San-J sent me a package full of some products for me to test out. I had been dying to try their stuff. According to their website , “San-J is dedicated to the manufacture of premium Tamari soy sauce and quality Asian-inspired products.” Oh dear was I ever satisfied after trying out their Tamari Ginger Dressing, Teriyaki Sesame Brown Rice Crackers, and White Miso Soup.

Tamari Ginger Dressing

- 25 calories per serving – yummy and healthy
- Soy sauce like flavor but thicker in consistency
- Ginger and onion are the predominant flavors
- Perfect served over stir fry vegetables or on a salad
- For all my friends with a gluten intolerance, this product is for you

I added some of the dressing to this broccoli slaw and piled it over a veggie burger. What did it take me so long to come up with something like this? It was easy and super tasty!

Teriyaki Sesame Brown Rice Crackers

- All natural and 100% gluten free
- The combination of sweet from the teriyaki glaze and savory from the soy sauce and sesame was absolutely superb
- Light, yet crunchy – perfect for dipping
- Nutty after-taste most likely stemming from the sesame seeds

White Miso Soup

- I have never tried pre-packaged miso before but mannn was I missing out
- This stuff tastes as fresh as the kind you get in a gourmet Japanese restaurant
- Huge chucks of tofu pieces – that’s what I’m talkin’ about
- The flavor was spot and the seaweed added to the texture of every ‘slurp’

I wanted to remind you all that there is less than two days to enter my King Arthur Flour Giveaway – keep though entries coming! I’m heading to Ann Arbor tomorrow to visit a few of my best friends – I am really excited! Stay tuned for updates! Before I go I would REALLY appreciate it if you answer a few of these questions regarding my blog (I am trying to get a few ideas from you guys):

1. What do you guys want to see on my blog? Any requests?

2. Does anyone want to do a little bloggy swap with me?

3. What is your favorite type of post that I have done? Reviews? Recipes? Pictures?

Thank you so very much for taking the time to answer my questions – I want to know what you guys want so I can cater to your likings :) Well that is all I have for now, have a lovely Friday afternoon! Stay safe this weekend!
