Go Fly Little Girl – The Girl Effect

Posted Nov 24 2010 12:00am
Give a girl an education and introduce her properly into the world, and ten to one but she has the means of settling well, without further expense to anybody. ~Jane Austen

When it comes to being a girl, I was fortunate enough to be treated like a precious creature. From the time I can remember, my dad always told me, I was more a boy to him than my two other brothers. At the time I never really understood this statement. But, when he said the same thing to me on my 18th birthday, he added “You are more capable than any man you will ever meet. You make me proud to have a girl like you. You have the innocence of a little girl and the sensibility of a lady. Go fly my little girl.”

My parents always taught me to be self dependent, self sufficient and compassionate. There was a clear distinction between right and wrong in our home. Growing up with 2 brothers, I was more like another boy, with all the girly frills. I had a safe and secure environment while growing up and for that I’m extremely grateful to my parents. I am what I am because they positively guided me.

But, there are many girls in this big world who aren’t as fortunate. Who don’t know where their life will take them or where to learn right from wrong. Who don’t have the security and encouragement like I had to “Go Fly”.

I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass. ~Maya Angelou

For a little girl to face this world alone, without getting physically and emotionally bruised is next to impossible, UNLESS she has the right kind of supportive environment.

To show a little girl the positive light of love and support is an investment in the flight of our society our human{e}ity our future. If one girl can be saved from the predatory world around her, she will grow, she will fly. She will become a lady who will then positively and lovingly support this society.

Don’t we all want a positive and loving world?

Lets all make an effort today. Nourish the hearts and minds of these little girls with love & knowledge in such a way, that they in-turn, can take the weight of worlds to come; make it happy and positive.

Lets start with our little girls, then the ones around us.

I don’t think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was responsible for myself, and I had to make good. ~Oprah Winfrey

This article is a tribute to the girl within me, to the girl I gave birth to, to every girl that lives among us. A tribute to The Girl Effect
