Giving Blood This Christmas

Posted Dec 22 2010 11:56pm
Well...it's not long to go until the big day now and you may still be frantically searching for last minute gifts.  No matter whether you have done all your shopping or not I wanted to give a special shout out to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and encourage you to consider giving blood this festive season.

Did you know that...

Every donation of blood you make can save three lives.

Every donation is incredibly valuable because while 1 in 3 Australians will need blood, only 1 in 30 donate.
The need for blood is constant and all blood components have a limited shelf life, which is why donations are needed every day. Blood and blood treatments are delivered to hospitals around Australia 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – even on Christmas Day.
Australia needs over 26,000 blood donations every week to save lives and meet the need of patients.
Donations made in December can help patients recover to be home for Christmas or the New Year.   Certainly gives a new meaning to Christmas savings doesn't it when you think that a gift like giving blood can save so many lives.  I hope you and your loved ones don't need the Red Cross Blood Service over Christmas and New Year but that you will consider giving blood for others who will if you can.   You just never know who you might be saving.
