Giardino Calante } The Falling garden

Posted Nov 20 2012 6:19pm

Giardino Calante, Doge, venice, art, installation, falling garden, germany, Gerda Steiner, Jog Lenzlinger

I first came across the Giardino calante  installation a few years ago and recently stumbled across it again, as breathtaken as before – taking this as a sign that it was just meant to be shared here on Cohabitaire.

Back in 2003 you could have seen this set-up in Venice’s San Staë church on the Canale Grande, marking the 50th anniversary of the Venice Bienale.

Visitors would lie on flat the bed (that was positioned above the Doge’s tomb) and gaze up at the hanging ‘garden’ that appeared to be falling from the ceiling, a plethora of synthetic and organic pieces so eloquently and delicately hung by Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger .
