Yesterday, we had a kind of goal setting workshop at work. It was pretty standard list all your goals. Rank them. Think about why they are important to you.
For example,
Goal: Earn more money
Why is this important to you?So you can buy a house
Why do you want to buy a house? And so on and so forth, you break down your goal/value until you have a clear picture of why it’s important to you and will add value and be worth striving toward.
While I wouldn’t necessarily say running is one of my goals, in and of itself. I have been thinking a lot about getting back into it. That’s the problem, thinking and not running!
So I thought about what motivates me to run:
My first step toward getting back in the asics, if you will, was looking for a race. At first I was looking for half marathons, but none seemed to fit my timing.
The More Half had already filled upand honestly, I probably don’t have enough time to train for it.
The 13.1 NYC marathon in Queens looks fun, but I don’t want to pay $65 to register.
So, I decided a 6 mile would work. I always look forward to the Scotland run, being at least 1/3 Scottish. So that may be my next dash around the big loop of Central Park.
In the meantime, I plan to run outside one time a week, and on the treadmill once a week. I’ll start slow and build from there. Even in this unpredictable NYC weather, I can count on at least one nice day a week. And the treadmill helps me focus on speed. I always like to challenge myself with treadmill workouts .
As far as playlists, I need to start building some good ones. I am currently tweeting my workout song of the day , so feel free to see what is keeping me moving daily.
For additional accountability, I am going to bring back my weekly workout wrap up posts. Accountability is my downfall lately!
Peace and running!
