April is National Stress Awareness Month! Yes – there is a month dedicated to this! I am willing to bet you are already aware of the stress in your own life without any outside help. Here are some statistics from the American Psychological Association in 2012:
69% of U.S. adults surveyed said their stress had increased during the previous year.
33% of U.S. adults said that they never discuss ways to manage stress with their health care providers.
While overall stress declined from 5.2 on a 10-point scale in 2011 to 4.9 in 2012, 35% said their stress increased in the last year, with 20% reporting extreme stress levels of 8, 9 or 10.
Where stress used to be a problem only after some major life crisis, like divorce or death, in the past, in today’s fast-paced world, it has become much more persistent and pervasive.
Stress is your body telling you that you are out of balance. All too many people just accept this as being normal life and believe there is nothing they can do about it. That isn’t the case, thankfully. There are definitely some very effective ways to help yourself manage the stresses we all face.
In a series of posts (beginning with this post back in November, 2012) I shared how I dealt with stress by using The Healing Codes. In all honestly – I still do them every morning and have found some wonderful physical and emotional healing.
Another excellent resource is the Institute of HeartMath. They have some unique and very effective things you can learn to do easily to manage stress effectively. They offer several strategies here for free! All of their strategies begin with heart-focused breathing. We are told in scripture to guard our heart because out of it flow the issues of life – this makes perfect sense to me!
