Whenever I go hiking, I always bring an extra pair of socks in my daypack or backpack. The right socks are essential if you're going to be out on various kinds of terrain in different climates. My favorite socks are SmartWool socks, a blend of naturally moisture-wicking wool and nylon and elastic. Also, LL Bean carries CoolMax socks that I like for shorter hikes, since I feel like they provide less overall foot cushioning. For everyday exercise, ankle-less socks tend to look more flattering with shoes and shorts or Capri-length pants, and you can find these shorter socks in CoolMax and other synthetic fabrics. The nifty fabrics aren't absolutely necessary if your current socks are comfortable and your feet stay dry throughout exercise.
