The Shadow of the Wind I'm going to do a whole post on this book because I loved it so much. It's right next to The Historian and The Book Thief in my heart. It's got it all: historical setting, a little romance, the threat of war, a passion for books... Also reading this... Primal Body, Primal Mind Our online book club is so ON! A brilliant idea from Saveur…
How to Peel a Head of Garlic in Less Than 10 Seconds from SAVEUR.com on Vimeo.
UPDATE 09/29/11: I tried this trick last night, and I’m sad to say that it didn’t work. But that’s very likely a fault of equipment.
First, I couldn’t smash the head of garlic hard enough with my hand, so I put it between to bamboo cutting boards and gave it a good whack. That worked like a charm! The head came about very easily in a nanosecond. I’m adding this technique to my permanent bag of tricks.
I don’t have metal mixing bowls, so I plopped the cloves into two ceramic bowls and, as instructed, shook like the “dickens.” Nothing! Nothing happened, except my arms got a little tired.
Anyone else make it work?!
