Garage Sale Gold + Weekend Fun

Posted Aug 29 2011 7:33am

Hi Friends!

We had a pretty busy weekend but it started off with a super lazy Friday. I got home from work and took a 2 hour nap! Afterward, I cooked up some salmon patties (I loosely followed Sarena’s recipe ):

salmon patties (they look so tiny here!) + baked sweet potato + celery/PB

It was a great meal to eat while watching more Mad Men. We stayed up past midnight finishing up the series. As happy as I am to be done watching (and having time to do other things instead of just being glued to the series), I’m sad that I have to wait until next year for Season 5 to come out. So in case you couldn’t tell, I love the series and you should check it out if you haven’t already!

On Saturday, I started my day with a 4 mile run. I ran 9 minute miles which felt like a good pace for me. Just thinking that a few months ago I was averaging 10-11 minute miles and now I’m down to 9 makes me feel good about my running progress so far.

After my run, having some food and taking a shower, I headed over to a few garage sales in my neighborhood. I don’t go to sales too often, mostly because there aren’t usually many in our immediate area, but I love going to them. I bought two bookshelves for $20 and 19 picture frames for $9. No idea what I’m going to use all of those frames for, but they are in decent  shape and the glass was in good condition:

The bookshelves were a great find. As I’ve mentioned before, we’re in the process of making our bedroom more of a bedroom. We’re doing this slowly to keep costs down and to make sure we’re getting pieces that we really like. I know we could easily go and buy a furniture set but I don’t want to spend a ton of $$$. Attached to our bedroom is this small “office” nook – usually it ends up being a dumping ground for stuff that doesn’t have a place. We finally filled it with a piece that we both love:

A few weeks ago, I helped a family friend set up an Estate Sale (which was a ton of work by the way!) and this was part of my “pay” – she let me pick out a few things in exchange for my time. I was so glad that she let us take this old rolltop desk home for free. Yes we still need a chair, but for now it works perfectly in this space. The bookshelves are now on the wall next to it:

They aren’t the same walnut-y color as the desk, but that doesn’t bother me. And for $20 I couldn’t pass them up. I like how they fill up the wall. And here they are filled up with our books:

I took the books from our guest room (also a disaster right now):

And this way, Jason can take those light colored bookshelves and use them in his office.  (Plus can you see how the books were overflowing from those smaller shelves? The larger cherry ones work out much better). Next weekend is a long weekend for me (Labor Day!), so we plan on doing more home-fixing-up-stuff then.

Saturday was also the 4 year anniversary of Jason proposing – so we of course went to our favorite place: Potbelly’s! We ate sandwiches from there on a picnic lunch when Jason proposed, so we have to go there each year. This year I tried their farmhouse salad which was delicious:

Jason got the standard turkey with hot peppers:

On Sunday we went to another Twins game – and we got to wear our Twins 4K shirts Smile

The company I work for gives each employee 4 tickets to 2 different games and the seats are really good – close to 1st Base! We took some friends and we had a great time.

I made something amazing for dinner on Sunday night but this post is super long so I think I’ll wait until Wednesday to show it to you Smile

I hope you had a nice weekend, did you do anything fun?
