I woke up this morning and realized I only have 47 days until the Run for Water ultra marathon. Gulp!
I was in far worse shape at this time last year, having a bad calf injury that nobody could predict the outcome of. Thankfully I’m not injured this year beyond the typical aches and pains and so my training is actually going quite well I think.
Training for Run for Water is actually quite unique in the sense that ‘training’ also includes fundraising. To be part of this incredible, 20-person ultra team we have each committed to raising at least $1500 for clean water projects in the Bonke Region of Ethiopia.
Incredibly, by this time last year I had already reached my minimum but this time around I haven’t quite reached that milestone yet. I’m super excited to have raised over $800 towards my goal (around 55%) but am still working hard at this aspect of my training.
More than halfway there!
I have a wonderful group of family and friends to thank for helping reach these fundraising goals and as tough as it is to ask people for money, I must continue to lean on them and my running community to help me get the rest of the way. Every little bit helps and even the small donations add up to do big things. Just $35 is enough to bring clean water to a young girl for life. Amazing.
When you put it in those terms, it really puts things in perspective. If we all pitch in just a little bit, we can provide safe, clean water which not only improves health for these communities but allows young women to finally attend school because they no longer have to spend all day walking to fetch the only water that is available. Sadly, that water is unclean and unsafe.

I have just $681 to go until I reach my minimum, that’s like $2 per Facebook friend or $1 between every two Twitter followers. :) If you feel like you have a few extra dollars kicking around, need to clean out your spare change jar or want to donate some bottle return money please visit my fundraising link below
I’ve decided to partner up with Mabel’s Labels again this year because they have an amazing fundraising program.
