Five years ago I started my blog “Trijill” to document the half ironman I just signed up for. I only had 3 triathlons (2 sprint, one Olympic distance) under my belt and made a spur of the moment decision to register for that distance (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run). And I was freaked out! S
Somehow that fear fueled me and I was able to find an amazing all women’s workout group and train for this super scary event. I also unleashed this attitude of finding crazy events that scared me. Swim Alcatraz ? Bike from Seattle to Portland in one day ? Check and check. My blog captures the good, the bad, and the klutzy of what it means to be a Trijill. I have had epic fails and aha moments. In the end though, I have truly fallen in love with the sport of a triathlon and being part of an amazing network of like-minded female athletes . Though I am not the strongest, fastest, fittest one out there each event is MY OWN and I really have learned through the challenges of this sport and have been able to transfer some of that learning into my non-tri life experiences.
Moving my body, signing up for WAY out of my comfort zone events, and being surrounded by support humor, and love from friends and family—THAT is what it is all about. Find something that scares you (signing up for a 5k, learn to surf, take an improv comedy class) that you think deep down there is no way you can do it and just go for it! Take a risk on yourself and HAVE fun doing it.
