Food Libel Laws- No Rights

Posted Nov 01 2009 12:00am
I have contemplated many times if I am continuing to inspire others with my fight for healthier and better lifestyles. I am also a Business Expert as much as I am a Lifestyle Expert. I deal in two very different industries. But one that continues to be dear to me is what you eat and the lifestyles one may lead. I know now I am here for a reason.

It is a proven fact that your economic status affects your obesity level. Low income families are unable to afford healthy foods. They can afford a one dollar meal over apples that are $1.99 a pound. Two apples is all you can get for $1.99 a pound. I consider myself and educator and I myself was recently schooled. What most people don't know is what they put in their bodies. Everything is controlled and we are unable to gain the income to be able to afford the right foods to nourish our bodies.

I also found out that it is illegal for me to come on this blog and criticize certain food industries no matter what facts I may have because I can be sued. We as consumers, advocates and experts are limited in our actions when it comes to fighting for our families nutritional rights. The law states:

Food libel laws, also known as food disparagement laws and informally as veggie libel laws are laws passed in 13 U.S. states that make it easier for food producers to sue their critics for libel. These 13 states are: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas. [1] Many of the food-disparagement laws establish a lower standard for civil liability and allow for punitive damages and attorney's fees for plaintiffs alone,[2] and regardless of the case's outcome.

You as a consumer need to make a choice today. Buy locally, read labels, educate yourself on what you consume, fight for your families right to consume healthy foods, buy organic, buy from farmers markets, cook a meal together and continue to educate yourself on what you put into your body. Our foods are processed, genetically engineered, cloned and produced in mass quantities that enable viruses to contaminate the foods we eat and later when you take a great big bite into that meal you are taking in the possibility of contaminating your body with the traces of feces found, or pesticides that have found their way to your mouth!

There are no longer excuses only actions take a stand today!
