Food Inspiration

One of the things I love most about reading {food} blogs is all of the great food inspiration I get. Not just the ‘maybe I’ll create a version of (enter fancy shmancy dessert item here) that looks half as good as that some day’ kind of inspiration, but for everyday meal inspiration too.

Last night I spent some time drooling over reading some of my favorite food blogs and getting inspired. I jotted down a ton of ideas for future recipes in my phone’s notepad (pumpkin bread french toast anyone? :) ) and I think I’m getting ready to get into the kitchen and whip up a little inspiration of my own.

As you guys know, I post recipes on the blog here and there. As someone who has never had any formal cooking or baking training (unless watching hours upon hours of Food Network in undergrad counts) I know I’m nowhere near a professional. Still, I have a great love for food, and I like to think I can bring a little creativity into the kitchen.

Truthfully, a lot of times I get intimidated reading food blogs, looking at the amazing photography and wondering how some bloggers come up with such creative ideas (I mean, Caramel Apple Grilled Cheese?  Really? Does it get any better than that?) but then I remember that everyone has to start somewhere. Part of turning something mediocre into something great is putting in continued effort and giving it an opportunity to change and grow. I’ve got some ideas cooking (pun intended) and I’d like to see what I can come up with. So from now on I’m going to make an effort to share at least one recipe with you guys per week, sound good? Good. :)

Today’s meals have also been inspired by blogs. Lunch was a tempeh topped salad (though sadly I didn’t make tempeh bacon) inspired by the fitnessista :

My version had spinach, tempeh, brussels sprouts, strawberries, sesame seeds and a dressing of tamari, rice wine vinegar and honey.

I also whipped up one of my all-time favorite smoothies to sip on throughout the day – the chocolate milkshake smoothie.

I saw a version of this posted by Girl On Raw  awhile back but I couldn’t find the exact recipe. I used 1 1/2 frozen bananas, a generous handful of spinach, 1/2 T cocoa powder, 2 dates and almond milk in this combo and it was delicious. I haven’t made this smoothie in quite some time but from the moment I thought about it yesterday I couldn’t wait to drink it today.

Question: Who inspires you when it comes to food? I still love watching Food Network for ideas and now pinterest is a great source for recipes. I also have so many bloggers who I draw inspiration from. Here are just a few of my faves: The fitnessista , How Sweet It Is , Steph’s Bite by Bite  and  Chocolate Covered Katie .
