Folic Acid for a Healthy Pregnancy
Posted Jan 11 2009 4:19pm
This week is National Folic Acid Awareness Week. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), roughly one out of 33 babies is born with birth defects. Folate is a B vitamin that is necessary for the production of new cells. During the first weeks of pregnancy a folic acid deficiency can result in neural tube defects. For this reason, it is extremely important for women of child bearing age to consume an adequate amount of folic acid. To learn more visit cdc.gov.
