Five Fact Friday

Posted Feb 10 2012 10:13pm
That’s right I’m bringin’ it back. I keep talking about it, so I thought that I should deliver on it.

#1. The first “grown-up” song that I learned was “ Paradise City ” by Guns N’ Roses. I was probably 3 or 4 when my dad taught it to me. We danced to it at my wedding, although it wasn’t the father-daughter song.

Whenever I hear the song I call my dad and sing it to him, even when it’s 2 am and the 80’s cover band at the bar I’m at is playing it. I bet that’s his favorite. Ha!

#2. The lake is my happy place. Preferably Smith Mountain Lake, but any lake will do. I don’t know what it is, but when I am at the lake I am the happiest and most relaxed person in the world. Maybe it’s the amazing family memories, maybe it’s the calm of seeing the water or skiing on it “when it’s like glass”, as my family would say. Whatever it is, I love it. I would take a vacation at a lake with a boat and a dock over anywhere in the world. I mean it.

Why yes that is a picture of a picture from about 10 years ago.

#3. Related #2, when my brother was really little (we’re talking like 4) and first started tubing he was terrified of it. To make him feel better I would tube with him and we would sing Smashmouth’s “All-Star”. That was our song and whenever I heard it I would call him and sing it to him (yes, even if the cover band was playing it at 2am). I think he loved it as well. In fact, the last time I ever called him I sang that song to his voicemail (and he saved it).

#4. I didn’t run yesterday. It was the first day that my knee felt better (still not 100%). I figured an extra day or two of rest was better than running and it hurting again. I may be being over cautious, but better safe than sorry!

#5. My dream job is to be a sign language interpreter. I started taking classes my sophomore year in high school and for 2 years in college (they didn't offer any more classes after ASL 5 so I had to stop). During my sophomore or junior year of high school The Washington Post did an article on American Sign Language (ASL) and they used me as their picture (although the article had nothing to do with me, just my school and their ASL program).

I can’t believe I was able to find the article (and photo credit ).
There is an 18-month program in Atlanta that sets you up to take the test to get your interpreting license. It’s about $14,000 in tuition if you are an out-of-state student and $3,000 if you are in-state, since I just moved to GA in June I am considered out-of-state. Definitely makes the most sense to wait so I can be in state, don’t ya think?

Tell me some facts about you!
What is your dream job?
