Fitness Classes I Want to Try This Fall

Posted Sep 02 2012 12:00am

I am finally jumping on the fall bandwagon.  Bring it on. One of the things I am looking forward to is taking all the fitness classes that have been on my must try list forever! I am in a bit of a frustrating gym situation. My gym is just far enough from my current apartment that it takes a little planning ahead to make it happen. Before it was two blocks away, so I never had to think about bringing gym clothes to work or work clothes to the gym for that matter. I also have to leave considerably more time to get to and from the gym.

This situation makes small studio classes all the more tempting.  While I could take classes at the gym, I rarely do.  I think signing up in advance for the studio classes really keeps me committed.  That’s why I am always looking for a good deal to make classes outside of my gym membership more affordable.

Here are some of the classes I plan to try over the next month or so!

Fit and Flow at Uplift Studios

This class is 45 minutes of cardio combined with 45 minutes of yoga or 30 and 30 for the express version.  I love this concept because I almost always opt for cardio over yoga, but I know I really need both. Done and done.  I am actually trying this next week and I am already super excited. Plus, it has Laura’s endorsement.

Deal:  Class packs are the way to go at Uplift.  They save you money per class and the 5-pack options allows you to try a variety of classes without a major commitment. 30 Minute Classes are $18 a class or 5 for $85. 60 Minute classes are $32 a class or 5 for $150.

TRX Strength Cardio Fusion at  Chaise 23

Another combo class!  This is a suspension based class promises to get your heart rate up while providing a total body strength workout. I like that they offer 40 and 55 minute versions too. (photo: wellandgood.com)

Deal: New client special offers 3 classes for $33!

Barre Pro and Pilates ProWorks

BarrePro’s orignal location is in San Francisco, but now there is a Union Square, NYC location too.  I love barre classes and I love pilates, so this seems right up my alley.

Deal: $25 intro class saves your $10 off the regular single class price.  A variety of packages and membership options can help reduce the cost of future classes.

Crossfit at Black Box

I’m not new to Crossfit, but I’ve never tried it in Manhattan. I definitely want to check out my local box (26th between Broadway and 6th) and see how it compares to other boxes I’ve tried.  I bet this location takes advantage of Madison Square Park!

Deal: First class free

Revolve NYC

Since I’ve been on a hiatus from running, my love of spinning has returned with vigor. I can’t wait to try this new studio and spin my booty off.  While I love classic spinning, I am very intrigued by their Barre Ride class as well.

Deal: Register at their site for discounted prices during the NYC Grand Opening this fall.

Body by Simone

I am embarrassed that I haven’t tried this class yet! It’s like the dance version of a barre class.  The Tracy Anderson workout for non-celebs, if you will.  45 minutes of dance cardio with 10 minutes of arm and ab work. Perfect. Sam has a great review .

Deal: First time client offer: 4 classes for $100–savings $40.

Whew, these should bust any workout rut I may or may not be in!

Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone.
