Fit Recessionista: Cheap Fit Thrills

Posted Jan 05 2010 10:33pm

So I know I have been MIA!

I have been with people nearly 24/7 for the last week, making it very hard to sneak in a post, or a workout for that matter!  That said, I got back on track with the gym and posting tonight!  Couldn’t feel better!

So, on to some exciting fit recessionista discoveries!

For a person who doesn’t watch much TV, I have to say switching to FIOS has made me very happy. Not only do they have great workout options on demand, but I just found out that FitTV has Exhale Core Fusion classes almost daily and Masala Bhangra with Sarina Jain!  Could like get any better?  Two of my favorite workouts right on my TV!

Speaking of Core Fusion, check out Dori’s CF challenge and her review of her new Bendie bag—we have the same one!

Exhale Spa is also offering a great deal right now:

  • unlimited core and yoga classes
  • 20% off select spa therapies
  • 10% off retail purchases
  • complimentary organic tea
  • complimentary use of changing rooms and amenities
  • annual subscription to body+soul magazine included with purchase

In my last post I said that I wanted to try the Will Power and Grace Class at Printing House Gym, well, Printing House is offering a free 5 day trial!  It looks like I will get my wish!

Groupon: Collective Buying Power

Another good place to look for the occasional fitness class deal is Groupon.  Liz and I are finally trying a pole dancing class at Sfactor we bought through groupon on Thursday, so you can expect a review soon!

I also just spotted a fun free dance class offered every Saturday

The Gina Gibney Dance studio offers a free two hour class from 2-4 combining dance, yoga, and meditation.

Finally, I know I mentioned this before, but if you are looking for new workout music for zero dinero, you must download this remix from the Rub.  Amazing!

In other news, I had my first consultation for the Health Magazine “diet” that I am participating in.  It is not really a diet, but a lifestyle plan. I DON’T DIET in the deprivation sense of the word. It makes me cranky and sad.  Obviously, I have a LOT to say about the plan and the meeting, so I will share it in a post soon.

Not to be a hater, but man was the gym packed tonight in typically January fashion.  I do not take kindly to resolutionaries taking up valuable treadmill space. The sooner they fall off the wagon, the better.  Wow, that sounds really harsh.  Note: this only applies to resolutionaries whom are directly affecting my ability to obtain a machine.  Everyone else, go for that workout with all your heart! Your gym addiction starts now!
