So after some major thinking about where I would like to take this blog, I’ve decided that I want it to be what I care most about… food. Silly, I know. Maybe deep down inside I am a foodie at heart. But the honest truth is that I care more about food, the sources our food comes from, they types of food people eat, and if they’re eating the right kinds of food. After some difficult soul searching that has occurred in the past month, I’m leaving clinical medicine and moving on to work on issues that I actually really give a damn about. Starting in April I will be working with Philabundance at one of their Fresh for All locations. The Congressional District that Philadelphia resides in is one of the top five most affected areas of food hardship. Meaning, more people here go hungry on a daily basis. I’ve always been drawn to nutrition, probably should have been a nutrition major and gotten my RD (which will probably happen in the near future). But I never really realized how much I care. That being said, I’m leaving the glamorous life of outpatient dermatology and the steady paycheck to try and start making a difference. I can see myself running a food bank, or working with the UN to strategize the distribution of resources to areas affected by natural disasters, or debating Congress for better use of food stamps. Thats me. Thats what I really care about. So this is the start of my journey. Its going to be a long road, with no clear ending in site. But let me tell you why you should care more about food.
After all, if you didn’t eat you wouldn’t be alive.
