Narcoleptic Face Planting and Delicious Tofurky

As much as I love staycationing I do have one staycation vice, I never get enough sleep! I always want to wake up with the sun to do something active and never get to bed early enough to catch up on sleep. After staying out late on Wednesday for Emmy’s Bachelorette fun I finally gave in to my fatigue faceplanted on the couch yesterday. I’m not talking a half hour cat nap but four and half hours of hard core sleeping.

It felt soooo good.

The best part was that I was my family woke me up just in time to sit down to this fantastic meal.

Angel hair pasta, homemade bell pepper and crimini mushroom marinara and skillet browned Italian Tofurky sausage. Oh.My.Word. Carl and Ludi really outdid themselves with this one. The marinara was so thick and flavorful and the pasta was simply carbolicious.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the Tofurky sausage’s taste, texture, and ingredients.

It’s essentially a combination of tofu (fermented soybeans) and seitan (wheat gluten.) I am defininitely going to be looking for these at Market Basket in Newburyport.

Pure Intensity Boot Camp Class #3

It was a good thing that I slept so much yesterday afternoon because my mom and I were up at 4:45 this morning to enjoy another awesome Pure Intensity  outdoor Boot Camp Class led by Sara . What I love about Sara’s classes is that each one is different and we do loads of exercise combinations that I would never do by myself.

Today Sara had us do a bunch of body weight lunges, squats, agility exercises and plyometric moves alternated with running. Here are just a few:

  • Walking lunges with torso rotation
  • Squat jump hops forward and side to side
  • Staggered body weight squats (one foot placed slightly in front of the other)
  • Suicides (back and forth sprints of increasing distance)
  • Side shuffles
  • High skipping

I worked up an awesome sweat and the time flew by as usual. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you live in the Bethesda or Chevy Chase area you have to check out Sara’s Pure Intensity Classes . In addition to the Monday through Friday 5:45 class, Sara teaches 8:20 am sessions for those of you who don’t like working out at the crack of dawn! Winking smile

Waterman’s Half Triathlon

So I’m sure that some of you might be wondering When in the heck is Jenny just going to tell us about her crazy training plan? Fear not my faithful friends – I will be competing in one or more half ironman triathlon’s this coming October! For those of you who aren’t familiar with triathlon races, a half ironman triathlon (AKA Ironman 70.3) consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run/half marathon.

I competed in my very first triathlon in 2004 which was half iron distance and boy was it a doozy because both the biking and running portions were completely off road! A race that I am definitely participating in is the awesome Waterman’s Half Triathlon on October 8th in Indianhead, Maryland, which is conveniently located only an hour away from D.C. I will write much more about the race, my goals, my training plan as the week progresses. I’m so excited!

I’m off to pick up Nick from the airport and then heading over to the wedding venue to help Miss Emmy decorate for her special day. Hope you have a fabulous Friday!

I would love to hear from you…

Have you done any narcoleptic face planting recently?
