TRX seems to be the new fitness craze and one that I had never tried before last week. I was invited by FitMAPPED to try my first TRX class at a studio on the Upper East Side called Exceed Physical Culture . FitMAPPED is a new website and mobile application that has a directory of fitness studios and gyms in your location that will match your budget, fitness goals, and schedule. They often invite me to free classes so I decided to take them up on their offer this time. I met Anita from FitMAPPED and several other bloggers at the Athleta store which is down the street from the Exceed studio.
Anita let us know that if we rated and reviewed the class on the FitMAPPED website, we would be entered to win an $89 Athleta gift card. Yes, please! After chatting a bit about the website and the class, we headed over to the studio.
Exceed offers several classes such as Cardio Kickboxing, TRX, Total Body Conditioning, and even Kid’s Fitness!
The studio was beautiful and smelled new and clean. It was much bigger than I expected. Every time we walked in one studio, there was another one behind it, and a second floor with more studios. The locker rooms were small but nice, and had razors (always necessary).
The studio had every piece of equipment that you could ever imagine. I was a little confused when I saw baseball bats hanging on the walls?
This was our teacher, Mike. He was super nice and knowledgeable about TRX.
We started out with a warm up consisting of jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and mountain climbers. We then moved onto the TRX machine.
We held onto the ropes and did jump squats, curtsy lunges, and other exercises that I can’t really explain in writing! I kind of felt like I was doing everything wrong but who knows. I would have liked more corrections on my form than I actually received. We then moved off of the ropes and onto the bosu balls for some cardio. We also did ab exercises using the medicine balls.
We did a couple of more exercises on the TRX machine such as planks with our feet in the ropes, push ups, and mountain climbers. The workout was fun and challenging, but I don’t think I like TRX very much. I prefer weights and kettle balls instead of hanging on ropes. I just love Refine Method so much that I have trouble liking any other strength class. I would try other classes at Exceed but probably not TRX again.
It was really fun trying the workout with other bloggers. Thanks FitMAPPED!
Do you want to try a class at Exceed? I have a pass for a complimentary class that is for first-timers only. Leave a comment if you want it and I will randomly pick someone at 5pm today.
