Errors in Feeling

Posted Feb 12 2011 10:06pm

"I trust my feelings" can be a error.  "My feelings are valid" also could be a wrong.  "I have to be true to my feelings" can also be a mistake.

Why could the above statements be wrong?

Feelings are the results of how we think about situations, events and people in our lives.  Our thinking is not always valid, objective and true.  In fact, Dr. Amen writes about "ANTS".  ANTS in the brain are described as automatic negative thoughts.  If our feelings are triggered by an automatic negative thoughts, then our feelings will be wrong and mistaken.

Christy Matta, MA wrote a very intriguing article, "Myths about Emotions, What Do You Believe"?  I found this very interesting article at PsychCentral .

Tracy identified the following Myths about emotions:

"There is a right way to feel in every situation.

Letting others know that I am feeling bad is a weakness.

Negative feelings are bad and destructive.

Being emotional means being out of control.

Emotions can just happen for no reason.

If I feel a certain way, I must act on my feeling".

Please conside the the above myths and errors regarding feelings.  You can avoid a lot of pain emotions and conflicts in relationships by avoiding the feeling errors and myths.
