Sushi Dinner at Raku Restaurant

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post , my mom is a frequent sushi eater yet has never tried maki rolls that contain raw fish! As a thank you for her wonderful hospitality we decided to treat her to a sushi dinner at Raku Japanese Restaurant on Bethesda Row.

After browsing the menu we decided to order two maki rolls, a salad, and a delicious hot appetizer to share.

We started with a seaweed salad with mesclun greens topped with crispy wontons.

Then moved on to the Mussels Mariniere served with a fragrant lemongrass broth and toasted crostini.

This was such a generous serving for only $8.50 and the mussels were perfectly cooked. The broth was so delicious that we asked for more bread so that we wouldn’t waste a drop of it!

Then we munched on a Chesapeake Bay Maki which contained raw tuna, cooked Maryland crab, avocado, and cucumber.

It was tasty but nothing special as my beloved crab was lost amongst the creamy avocado and fleshy tuna. :(

Our Golden Dragon maki showcased cooked eel, raw tuna, cucumber, avocado and crispy potato flakes.

I enjoyed the indulgent flavor of the crispy potatoes combined with the avocado and eel, however, these rolls still couldn’t live up to Jai Yen !

Fortunately, my dining companions were the tops.

I am going to miss this lady!

Today’s Travels

This morning I got up bright and early for a run along the C.O. canal with Mr. Mo because Nick and I are driving to our new city to spend a few days apartment hunting. Don’t worry I won’t keep you in the dark much longer about where we’re headed, though I will have a little fun seeing if you can guess based on some clues. Anyone up for a little game of Where in the U.S. is Jenny later today?

I’ll be blogging twice a day as usual during our search, however, I won’t have as much access to my Facebook , Twitter , and email accounts.

I am super excited about our new city and I can’t wait to tell you more about it and show you some pics! I hope that you’re having a wonderful Sunday!

I would love to hear from you…

What is your favorite sushi?

Are you a raw fish sushi fan?
