Causes of Mouth Odour

  • Lack of oral hygiene
  • Indigestion
  • Sinus or throat infection
  • Consumption of alcohol and tobacco
  • Empty stomach also causes bad breath

Herbal remedies for Bad Breath

  • Gandoosha – A medicated fluid is held mouthful for a specific period until there is lacrimation and nasal discharge and then spat out.
  • Kavalagraha- The mouth is only 3/4th filled with the medicated fluid, the fluid is rotated and swished in the mouth for a specific time and then spat out.

The medicines are decided depending on the dosha vitiation.

 Do’s and Don’ts for Mouth Odour

  • Drinking large amounts of water and eating fresh fruits and vegetables is indicated.
  • Ensure you eat at least 3 meals a day.
  • Rinse/ gargle at least 4 times after every meal.
  • Use mouth wash.
  • Avoid coffee and alcohol.
  • Avoid food items belonging to ‘garlic’ family.
  • Don’t overload your stomach and delay the digestion process.

Remember, halitosis is more of a symptom than an independent disease, so ensure the treatment of the underlying cause.
