I go through phases, for a few weeks/months I eat oatmeal everyday for breakfast, then I eat cereal for awhile, then smoothies, but I always return to oatmeal especially in the winter since it's nice and warm. There are multiple benefits to eating oatmeal; significant source of dietary fiber, cholesterol lowering agent, slows the rise of blood sugar, and it provides many nutrients (zinc, magnesium, vitamin E, and more). While I was home over thanksgiving my mom had Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter and I had the genius idea of putting it in my oatmeal, and....delish! So I went to the store when I got home and found pumpkin butter and also honey apple butter.
Here are a couple of my favorite ways to dress up my oatmeal
Pumpkin Butter or Honey Apple Butter, Cinnamon, and Flax Oatmeal Ingredients1 Tbsp Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter or Honey Apple Butter 1 tsp cinnamon 1 Tbsp ground flax seed 1/2 cup rolled oats 3/4 cup of water (I like my oatmeal thicker)
Prepare oats as recommended. Add pumpkin or honey apple butter, cinnamon, and flax seeds and enjoy! This recipe will satisfy those of us that have a little sweet tooth :-)
Almond Butter, Chia Seeds, and Cinnamon Oats Ingredients2 Tbsp almond butter (right now I'm all about Justin's Vanilla Almond Butter) 1 Tbsp chia seeds 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup rolled oats 3/4 cup of water
Prepare oats as recommended. Add almond butter, chia seeds, and cinnamon and mix well. Adding almond butter is a great source of protein and will help you keep you full throughout your morning. Justin's Vanilla Almond butter adds just a little but of sweetness to the traditional almond butter, it is a subtle addition but makes this very addicting. I have been eating it with everything the past few weeks; apples, waffles, by itself in a squeeze pack (yum!).
