Does No Calm = No Storm?

Posted Oct 04 2009 11:12pm

*sorry no pics! just got my camera and still haven’t tried it out, definitely tonight and this weekend!

I hope so, it’s been a crazy week, so I hope that the absence of calm will mean no storms this weekend!  But before we get to that, I am having a blogger-filled week!  Last night I attended my second Beam Green Social Club event, and got to meet and/or catch up with Diana, Emily, Katherine, and Gena– it is a social club after all.  I was very excited to hear Gil Jacobs speak, as he is quite the NYC raw food legend.  He was so vibrant, energetic and passionate, it was pretty easy to believe that whatever he is doing is working!  I always get excited when people talk about becoming your best-self and eliminating the ego!  He also did a great job of streamlining the volumes of raw food knowledge that I have aquired over the years.

I think it was important that he emphasized gradually improving your diet at your own pace because at the end of the day, if you put less garbage in today than you did yesterday, you are detoxifying.  Even if that is one less cookie or diet coke a day, it starts the process.  I realized even in the last 10 days that I do not do well trying to make a bunch of big changes.  I think concentrating on one habit change and removing one “processed food,” and once that is second nature, moving on removing one more thing and changing one more habit that might be preventing me from being the best, happiest, healthiest, kindest “me” I can be, is a better long-term strategy.

I also really appreciated the nutritional model and philosophy Gil set up, but I think if I hadn’t been around raw foodies for so long, I might think it sounded a bit extreme, so I don’t think I will get into it on the blog.  Maybe one of the other ladies will! I do encourage you to join Beam Green and attend in person or via webcast!

After work I am going to get in my first haircut since November before I meet the ladies!  I have been super spoiled by having my sister-in-law always do my cuts and color, but I haven’t been able to get home in a while.  It is great to have someone spend hours getting it just the way you like, mixing multiple shades of highlights and low lights, and of couse, not having to worry about offending them if you don’t like it.  I tried to do my own color last weekend, not a total Anne Shirley green hair type of disaster, but definitely not the color I was going for!  Obvi, I can’t cut my own hair and I have been afraid to try a new place; hopefully Tease  won’t disapppoint.

After the haircut, I get to have dinner with VeggieGirl and Gena tonight! Yay! Since the much anticipated VG+Gena dinner happens to fall at the same time as the Summit registration, my lovely mom agreed to try and register me, so I didn’t have to be insanely rude with my laptop at dinner tonight!

I leave for perhaps my favorite place on earth, Martha’s Vineyard, right after work tomorrow, so I am not exactly sure when I am going to pack, clean, etc….I really don’t care as long as I can have two days of sunshine, pretty please!  My weekend workout plan is possible biking to the beach on Saturday and morning runs on Sunday.  I will be with a bunch of runner boys, so if they are willing to get up early, I’ll have some company. Since we are arriving from Boston to OMFMV Saturday morning, Saturday might be a rest day.

However, Meghan, my personal trainer from Smart Workout said that if you don’t have time to workout before hitting the beach, just doing 3 sets of 12, lunges, squats, crunches and push ups, will give your body a tightening boost for later.

Besides being kind of busy, I have decided that, if at all possible, I want to do the NYRR Sprint Tri on August 23rd.  It is mainly a matter of costs, the registration fee ends up being $95.  And I don’t have a bike–and can not afford to buy one, and I might have to rent a zip car to get to Flushing Meadows, so we’ll see.  I think I could definitely train for it in a month.  hmmmm  Anyone else considering it?

Good luck to everyone trying to get into the Summit tonight!
