I was reading in a wonderful article in January’s Natural Solutions magazine about clutter and health.
In the article is a quote from Organizer Peter Walsh - "Clutter is anything that gets between you and the life you’d like to be living." I love this definition!
So how can clutter affect your health? The author, Penny Wren, mentions dust from surface clutter, things to trip over or bang into and it may even contribute to being overweight. We are less likely to be active if we live in clutter. You may not even be able to access or find your exercise equipment.
You can be overweight when your kitchen is cluttered. It’s easier to get take out or pop in a convenience food rather than try to get out the utensils to create a healthy meal from scratch.
And overeating and overbuying can be connected as both may be trying to fill an emotional void.
Clutter also affects mental health, leading people to become anxious or depressed. Or at least more stressed.
